Interested in becoming a community intern with GVI? Then read on.....

Three years ago I graduated from North Carolina State University and was thrown out into the world with big dreams and a bachelor’s degree. The next 2 years I went through the typical post-grad confusion of trying to figure out my life. After a few tries and various industries, I realized that my passion lay within international development. After much research, I took a leap of faith and signed up for the Kenya Community Development Internship with GVI. Let me tell you, it was the best decision I have made, well besides attending NCSTATE…GO PACK!

The first half of my internship with GVI enabled me to spend two weeks on each project and allowed me to gain experience in all aspects of GVI Kenya. I was able to work with community groups, research Colobus monkeys, search for dolphins, and teach the kids I pass in the street every day. As an intern you take on extra tasks and gain experience in all aspects of development and conservation work. Now I am in the last half of my stay here in Kenya as short-term staff in Shimoni. I am extremely blessed to wake up every morning and live my dream. My day consist of working on our current computer literacy programme, strengthening relationships in the community through meetings and working with new incoming volunteers. Every day I learn something new and gain invaluable experiences. The next 10 weeks are sure to be exciting and I am happy to help the community and GVI in every way possible. All in all this experience has been the opportunity of a lifetime and something I can take with me no matter where I go in life. Being a GVI intern is a leap worth taking for sure.
